Video Showcase

A two-column video library. The left column holds one large featured video; the right column is a stacked playlist of shorter entries under a small heading. Clicking any of them — featured or playlist — opens the same full-screen modal player, so nothing plays inline and nothing navigates away from the page.

Nothing embeds a YouTube player until someone clicks. Until then every video is just a thumbnail image, which keeps the page fast even with a dozen videos on it.

Setting What it does
Playlist Heading The small uppercase label above the right-hand video list. Default MORE VIDEOS. Leave it empty and it falls back to “MORE VIDEOS” rather than disappearing.
Section ID Optional anchor, so you can link to this section with #your-id. Written handleized — “Section ID” becomes section-id.
Padding (mobile) — Top / Bottom 0–10 rem, 0.5 steps. Default 3 / 3.
Padding (tablet) — Top / Bottom 0–10 rem, 0.5 steps. Default 3 / 3.
Padding (Desktop) — Top / Bottom 0–10 rem, 0.5 steps. Default 7 / 7.

The heading and intro copy above the videos are fixed blocks, so their text and heading level are edited on the block rather than in these settings. The section has no background setting — it inherits whatever the page sits on.

Two fixed blocks sit at the top and can’t be removed or reordered:

  • Title — the section heading, rendered at the largest heading size.
  • Rich text — an optional paragraph below it.

One fixed block holds the featured video:

  • YouTube Video (featured) — the large video in the left column. It renders with the title below the thumbnail at a larger size than the playlist entries.

Then the playlist is repeatable:

  • YouTube Video — add as many as you like. Each renders as a row in the right-hand list: title on the left, small thumbnail on the right, divided by a hairline rule.

Covered in full on the YouTube Video page; the essentials:

Setting What it does
YouTube Video URL The video. YouTube only — Vimeo and uploaded files aren’t accepted. The block renders nothing at all if this is empty.
Video Title Shown beside (or below) the thumbnail, and again under the video in the modal. Optional, but a video with no title is a bare thumbnail with no context.
Custom Thumbnail Overrides YouTube’s own thumbnail. Leave empty to use YouTube’s auto-generated one.
Block ID Optional anchor for this specific video.
  • Clicking a thumbnail opens a full-screen dark overlay with the video playing automatically, and locks scrolling on the page behind it.
  • The title appears in white below the player if the block has one.
  • It closes on the X button, on Esc, or by clicking the dark area around the video.
  • Only one video plays at a time — opening a second replaces the first.
  • Put your strongest video in the featured slot. It’s roughly three times the size of a playlist row and it’s what the eye lands on first.
  • Keep playlist titles to one or two lines. They sit in a narrow column beside a small thumbnail; a long title pushes the rows out of rhythm.
  • Four to six playlist videos reads best. There’s no scroll container on the list — it just gets taller, so a long list leaves the featured video stranded at the top of a lot of empty space.
  • Check the section on mobile. The two columns stack, so the playlist ends up below the featured video rather than beside it.
  • Videos with no title still work, but the modal then shows a player with nothing under it. Add titles.
