Marquee

A single-line strip of text and small images that scrolls steadily to the left and loops forever. It’s the ticker band — a handful of short claims (“Free shipping”, “Drug-free”, “Since 1997”) separated by icons, running under a hero or above the footer.

The contents are built from two block types, Marquee Text and Marquee Image, which you interleave in whatever order you want. The section duplicates whatever you’ve added three times behind the scenes so the loop never shows a gap — you only ever enter the sequence once.

The band itself is transparent and has no padding controls. It takes the background and text colour of whatever it’s sitting on.

Setting What it does
Section ID Optional anchor, so a link elsewhere on the page can jump here. Must be unique on the page and written in handle format.
Hide marquee Has no effect. See the caution below.
Marquee Speed How long one full pass of the strip takes, written as a number of seconds with an s on the end — 20s, 45s. Default 30s. Higher is slower.

Add as many of each as you like, in any order. They render in a single line in the order listed.

Marquee Text

Setting What it does
Text The phrase. Default “Your text here”.
Text Color Leave blank — the default — to inherit the colour of the section it sits on.
Font Size Small, Base, Large (default), XL or 2XL.
Font Weight Light, Normal (default), Medium, Semibold or Bold.

Marquee Image

Setting What it does
Image The image, rendered in a square that grows from roughly 44px on mobile to 70px on desktop.
Alt Text Describes the image. Falls back to the alt text saved on the file itself.
Max Width (px) Has no effect — the size comes from the section’s own layout.
Max Height (px) Has no effect.
Image Fit Has no effect — images are always fitted whole inside their square.

The whole strip is hidden from screen readers. That’s deliberate — a phrase repeated three times and read out mid-scroll is noise, not content.

The marquee isn’t currently placed in any template. It’s available in the section picker for any page, and can be added to the footer group.

  • Keep phrases to three or four words. A long sentence takes most of a screen width and the strip stops reading as a ticker.
  • Alternate text and image. Text, icon, text, icon is what makes the loop look intentional. Two phrases in a row run together with nothing to separate them.
  • Six to eight items is about right. Too few and the repeat is obvious — the same phrase comes back around before the first one has left. Too many and a visitor never sees the whole set.
  • Slow it down rather than speeding it up. 30s is already brisk. If phrases feel hard to catch, try 45s.
  • Set the sizes on the blocks, not the section. There’s no section-wide type size — each Marquee Text carries its own. Give them all the same Font Size and Font Weight unless you’re deliberately emphasising one.
  • Leave Text Color blank. The strip is designed to sit on other sections and inherit their colour. A fixed colour will fail as soon as it’s placed on a darker band.
